CISCO and Google are in a partnership to offer public Wi-Fi hot spot in India

CISCO and Google joined hands to roll out free high speed WiFi zones in bengluru, the initial target to cover 200 locations within next two months.

The Tech Giant CISCO, made the announcement at its India summit. The official said that these WiFi zones will be set up at crowded areas in the city except railway stations, the target locations would be public spaces like bus stops, hospitals, government offices, public parks etc.

Currently zones marking are in progress and approx 25 zones has been shortlisted and implemented across the city.

CISCO and Google is aimed to reach the number of zones up to 500 in Bengluru and the further extension will be implemented to other cities and rural areas.

CISCO & SAARC President Sameer Garde said this partnership is targeted to offer internet connectivity and the demand for public WiFi will all the way go up by 100x in upcoming three years.

According to TRAI, other countries like USA, there are a 1 WiFi hotspot is available for each 150 people, however in India 8 million hotspot installations is required to achieve the ratio, which is creating further market opportunities for infrastructure and internet service provider sectors.

India has spotted only 52000 WiFi hotspots till today, wherein a proactive and dedicated approach is desired to get the goal of achieving high speed internet zones throughout India.

As per the statement of Sajith Shivanandan, MD and business head, Google pay and Next Billion user initiative India, this is an advertisement supported business model in India and the revenue will be shared among all three partners included ISP- (Internet Service Provider).

According to CISCO VNI report approx 59 percent of traffic will be offloaded from cellular network to WiFi by 2022.
